At Discovery Island Preschool we are committed to establishing a supporting and safe community. We have a wonderful learning environment that is academically challenging and uniquely engaging. I believe that children should be allowed to grow at their own pace and to learn in ways that help them become confident in themselves as learners. Even from an early age children show preferences for different styles of learning. Some will find it easy to follow verbal instructions, others will learn from someone showing them “how to do it”, and some will learn both ways. At Discovery Island we address those differences, encouraging the development of the whole child, with activities that involve young students in ways appropriate to their learning levels and styles. We believe that the relationship between school and home play are important part in creating a successful learning experience for the child. Discovery Island curriculum and educational program offer and encourage good habits of health, nutrition, grooming, and safety. With meal time we use this for social interactions and teach them manors and family style values for dinner. In the class room we have seven learning centers: Construction and design center, Dramatic play center, writing center, Creativity and art center, Reading and listening center, Math and manipulative center, and Science and sensorial center.
What we like to do is make each child a portfolio so we can monitor his/hers progress. Several items that your child worked on are labeled, dated and stored in his/her portfolio so that later we can share this with you during parent-teacher conferences. Communication with parents is a big part because we want the parents to know how their child is doing. We e-mail, call, send papers home, conferences, and/or any other way that is best to communicating with the parent(s).
Hours of operation are: Monday thru Friday 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 pm OR specific contacted hours. The prices for this center is full-time rates are as follows: $110.00 a week. *Full-time is considered anything between 21 to 50 hours per week. Anytime over 50 hours is extra. I also accept drop-ins. The rate for daytime drop-in care is: $5.00 an hour per child. (Minimum 2 hours) or $30 a day for a full days care. The ratio of the children in one class is around 15-20 kids. This way there is an equal amount of attention and getting to know the child one on one so that we can really get to know them and there needs to learn.
All children enrolled into Discovery Island are treated with love and respect and provided with the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of activities. My most fundamental objective is to provide for your child a safe, clean, and loving atmosphere, in which each child will feel he/she is loved, valued, and wanted.
