Can someone please edit my debate speech, the topic is “Laptops in elementary school” and I against this topic.

I hope that you enjoyed my opponent’s speech as much as I did, yet I must disagree with what he has said. Children of this age, seem to be excessively distracted, and would not be able to focus as much as they possibly could; they could easily choose to do wrong things in school. Also they cannot be relied on using their own laptops. The chances of laptops getting stolen or damaged are too high, risky, and costly for parents. There is also not much need for a laptop to be used in elementary school. Laptop use can be harmful to ones eyes and can promote bad writing habits. Laptop brands can bring competition and jealousy among students. The need for laptops can be a stressing on a family with financial issues. The use of laptops can be disruptive, unhealthy, and can promote bad influences on young children. Finally, proper monitoring and website blocking is not always successful and it can temp children to violate school policies.
Everyone will agree that there is no harm in having a laptop. But the problem is that people strain their eyes in very unhealthy and unsuitable postures for long hours. Youngsters use most of their leisure time on their laptops watching movies, surfing or even working. While most scientists believe that the risk of harm from wireless technology is hypothetical, the risk laptops pose to our backs, shoulders and necks as we lean over them on the train, at home and at work are very real. Because they encourage bad posture, they’re causing an epidemic of musculoskeletal problems.
Laptops as well encourage kids to spend too much online, often browsing dangerous sites. Yes, pop up blockers do work but children only go to inappropriate sites because they’re not aloud to so they break that rule. However, faculty should keep in mind that not everyone is a perfect student and not everyone cares to learn, with or without the laptops. Trial and error is the only way to know for sure if the use of laptops in the classroom is appropriate in any particular school. In Henrico Country, Virginia, 232 students were suspended for violating the school’s policies.

Also on the down side, is the fact that maintaining laptops that a student is carrying around and on and off school, can be very costly, not every home is a suitable environment for a laptop, and may not be very friendly. Also, if everyone is using laptops they can spend all there free time online chatting with friends and doing other online activities such as games instead of working and this would be hard to detect. Also, there is a concern that once students move to using laptops all the time in school, there will be no need to even learn to write, as typing will become the primary lesson for children.
According to the research in Marquette University Law School, the survey shows nearly 80 percent of students who always use a laptop in class, 96.1 percent use it for taking notes. But that’s not the only use: 70.5 percent said they used their laptop to surf the Internet, mostly to check their email (87.1 percent), although nearly as many (77.8 percent) said they used the Internet to look up cases, statutes, or other class-related material. Fewer than half (42.1percent) said they used the Internet for other purposes, like shopping or general surfing, and even fewer (38.4 percent) said they used the web to instant message their classmates and friends. The majority of those who used the Internet in class did so because they were bored. Therefore, many students use laptops as a tool for their leisure time and would not work as a pilot program in elementary schools. I now stand ready for cross-examinations.

Dreamer asked:

I just recently enter college and am currently what i say is an even person:
When i wake up to the alarm i feel “its WAY too early” and want to roll over to go back to sleep
10am I’m starting to feel awake
Still a little Groggy into afternoons
Don’t Talk to me in the mornings, I’m still mad because i had to wake this early
I feel Sharp around 8 P.M.

With this i have a flexing bed time sometimes I’m at home really relaxed and decide to go to bed around 11pm because i know i have to wake early
other days i don’t sleep till 5am and wake around to just before work

My bed time is always somewhere in between that time

I also enjoy about 8 hours of sleep

Starting college i would like to wake early because i know that those who wake early are generally more successful in life..The early bird catches the worm…i also like the fact that i can get more done when i wake earlier..usually around 6 or 7..

The turn around is that i do not wish to end my partying habits
I’m not irresponsible, I choose the correct night and time to go out and party, stay up till about 4 and awake at 2 when i can afford it.
I want to have my energy in the morning and am working towards becoming a morning person
but i fear that my partying may not allow it

any tips or opinions?
I also work in the evenings not getting off the clock till about 10
Please do not tell me to just plain “quit my partying” i know that is a better solution but would rather not do it

what you would love a girl or guy to look like, act like, traits, habits, anything!

id say my ideal man would be a tan, italian or a blonde surfer looking boy or a gorgeous black guy. he’d have to be passionate and not afraid to show me off to his friends and he wont pressure me into anything but tells me what he wants. he’d treat me so well but he’d also make a lot of time for his friends too. he gets jealous but not overly jealous and he loves me for my flaws and perks. he can be sensetive and swwet but also wild and outgoing. he’s have a great sense of humor and loves music. He’ll be smart but not nerdy and he’s successful or going toward the direction of success. he’d have to love to party like i do but not waayy too much of it. and he’d have to have nice eyes and a great smile.. and a nice body! (:

Hi. I am a 21 year old junior in college. I have never had a relationship, not even one of those short-lived high school ones. I am outgoing and friendly and have a wide variety of interests. I make efforts not to complain when something is bothering me (or talk too much) and I am a very successful student. I take good care of myself in terms of grooming habits, I wear a little bit of makeup, and I wear clothes that fit well. I make friends very easily and I am secure in most social situations as long as there are people I know around. I can make friends with men very easily, but I cannot get them to like me any more than that. The only ones whose attention I seem to get are the sleazy one-night-standers (who, by the way, have blatantly told me what they wanted). I am a moderate Christian woman and don’t believe in sleeping with someone just for the physical pleasure. I’ve met nice guys in church, but they are all taken. The only thing I wish that I could change about myself is my weight (slightly heavy), but I am not overly insecure about it. I’m not sure why I can’t ever get past the “friend” stage. I know that I don’t need a man to complete my life, but I would like to have one. Any suggestions?

My Dell desktop running XP Pro has developed the annoying habit of booting correctly only every other time. Alternate times hang at a black screen. I haven’t installed anything new (although I have programs like Windows, Antivirus, anti spyware that update automatically). What could possibly be loading every other time to make a boot successful (or unsuccessful)??

Do you think that the character, Ray Barone, in that show had AS? I know by all means that the actor doesn’t have it and if he truly acts that way in real life, I’m sorry for bringing it out since it is an extremely private thing.

I believe the character has AS because of how he interacts with others. While he has a lot of friends and is very charismatic, it seems that he always misses the boat, has some unique bad habits, and always has a weird laugh. It seems that he is the last to understand the bud of a joke even though he is able to make people laugh and is a highly successful comedian. It seems that he does well with change, but that he feels comfortable when everything stays the same because it’s going well. I feel that he is a better representation of a person with Aspergers Syndrome than Gary on Boston Legal because it is the subtle things (not the overt things) that define true people with the disorder. It doesn’t have to be perilous and it is usually extremely subtle.

I’ve always been easily distracted and have found it difficult to follow through with whatever I start. This has caused me to drop classes in school and lose motivation. I just get bored and lose interest.

I’m ready for a change in my life so that I can make progress and be successful. People tell me that since I’m only 20 not to rush and that I have time to change.

I really want to do things differently. Breaking old and bad habits is never easy.

How can I set goals and be persistent with completing them?

How do I break these daily procrastination habits?

I feel really depressed about my life and the direction its going in.
This is my last year in high school (grade 12), and I made a promise to myself that I would work hard to get good grades and all. But so far I’m falling behind in most of my classes. I feel really guilty about it. I feel lazy from school, tired and etc. I have homework, and I havent done it yet. Im such a procrastinator :(.
I know that I should do my homework… but I actually DONT have something to motivate me. Last year I carried on this pattern for the whole year and I got the worst marks ever. I almost gave up. I wanted to drop out.
This year I want to change my habits. Especially for the fact that I’ll be handing in my applications to colleges and universities and I want to show them the best I can do. I just need motivation. I want in my life to actually be successful and show ppl that dreams do come true. But how do I start when I really dont get up and show them wat I can reaaly do?

signs_of_poetry asked:

I am 17 years old. I currently weigh around 180 lbs at 5′5″. I would, ideally, like to loose about 60 pounds, but I am flexible between a 40 to 60 pound weight loss goal (so that I weigh between 120 and 140 pounds).

I have been successful at removing soda and slurpees from my diet. I used to drink soda almost every day in addition to one or more 64 oz. Slurpees a week. I will, on occasion, drink a small coffee drink from Starbucks, and now that winter is approaching I have been having some apple cider (including sparkling cider). These are treats though, and I primarily drink water (with or without lemon or lime) and skim milk on occasion.

I have attempted different diets (including South Beach and Weight Watchers) with little success. I am hoping to find a way to loose weight that I can do without thinking about it too much.

I was wondering if the following two steps would be good habits to get into to start loosing weight:

1. At least half of my meal consists of fruit and/or vegetables
2. An hour long walk.

As far as the walk goes, now that the weather is colder, I will probably be walking in place while watching TV. Sometimes I will just march, but other times I will incorporate moves from the “Walk Away the Pounds” DVDs. Still, I will be intentionally active for 60 minutes each day (and I will increase to moderate jogging as I get into better shape). In addition to walking, I will be playing Wii Sports and using the Wii Fit often.

In order to eat enough vegetables, I will have to make sacrifices. This will mean cutting down on unhealthy foods-including french fries (which are a weakness of mine).

So, are these good tips to help me loose weight?

1. At least one hour of at least marching in place in front of the TV
2. Half a plate of veggies per meal
3. 64 or more ounces of water per day
4. Limiting self to “Kids Meal” sized portions when fast food is unavoidable.

Thanks for the help.

Also, if you have any success stories on weight loss, diet tips, or anything of the sort please let me know.

Luke
